ACE Garage Facility Tour at San Diego Convention Center and
San Diego Gas Lamp Walking Tour

Sunday, March 22, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, drop in during this time frame to tour the San Diego Convention Center’s event garage operated by ACE Parking. It opened in 1990 and was expanded in 2001. Plans are in process to further expand the convention center to continue to host the hugely popular and world-famous Comic Con which welcomes 135,000 attendees for a few days each July. This center generates over $1 billion annually in regional impact. On the tour, you’ll get to see the new TIBA control system utilizing LPR technology in action.

Location: 111 W Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101. The main entrance to the garage is on Harbor Drive in between Hall C & Hall B. You'll notice a dip in the road that enables cars to drive under the building. The walls on either side of Harbor Drive in this area are decorated with colorful tiles to highlight the entrance. The ACE location manager and his team will direct you to the starting location of the tour from there. For those on foot, there are also staircases that go down to the parking garage from the sidewalk above.

Walking Tour: Also, at 2:30 PM and again at 4:00 PM, you have the option to take a 1-hour walking tour of San Diego’s Historic Gas Lamp Quarter hosted by Alva Whetton from ACE Parking, as well as a certified San Diego Tour Guide.

“Join me for a walk as we explore downtown San Diego's historic Gas Lamp Quarter, where beautiful, historic Victorian buildings now house hundreds of trendy retail shops and some of the finest restaurants, bars and nightclubs that San Diego has to offer. Together, we’ll discover the colorful history of downtown as we enjoy a leisurely walk through the district with a few stops along the way. We’ll highlight historical treasures such as the Davis-Horton House (the oldest surviving structure downtown), hear tales of downtown’s colorful historical characters, and marvel over its growth and development over the last 170 years.”

To join Alva on one of these tours, please meet her a few minutes prior to the start time under the convention center’s large red circular “E” sign for Hall E at the intersection of Harbor Drive and Fifth Avenue (there’s a large crosswalk nearby). Alva will be holding an American flag atop a telescoping pole to make herself easier to find.
